The band Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also acclaimed studio musicians with Boz Scaggs at the time) as well as bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. The group's name was derived from the Latin word that means "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore every style of music.
In 1981 Toto's third album Turn Back is a failure However, they resurface with their fourth album Isolation which contains two hits including the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour make them a household name throughout the globe.

After a hiatus of a few years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in the year 1986. It is a departure from the ballads that were featured on previous albums and also includes some heavy rock. The album was their first album to go platinum in North America.
When they record the band's fifth album the band loses their manager and are financially in trouble. They decide to record a brand new album and change their name with a different producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, is now replacing Fergie Frederiksen as the lead vocalist. Joseph is a more natural frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a needed boost.
The band releases Mindfields in 1999 and embarks on a massive worldwide tour. After a few months in Europe they travel to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a short break, Toto resumes recording and continues to record their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes the cover of Weezer's track Hash Pipe in response to the band performing their hit song Africa during their recent tour. Toto's touring band includes drummer Lenny Castro and bassist Shannon Forrest along with keyboardist Shem Von Schroeck.
